Marc L Abbott is a novelist, playwright, short film director and storyteller. His written works include A Gamble of Faith, The Hooky Party and The Dead Syndicate. His short horror film, Snap, was an official selection at this year’s Coney Island Film Festival. He is a Moth StorySlam and GrandSlam winner and has been a featured storyteller at Tell It: Brooklyn, The Dump, What Are You Afraid Of, Barbershop Stories and BadyHOUSE Storytelling Concert Series. He currently has a one man show out called Of Cats and Men: A Storytellers Journey which will be at Q.E.D. on March 31st. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he still calls the borough his home. In this very special episode, we hear about what it was like growing up, what it means to be a Gypsy, and how their band, The MXT, came to be. Then, The Bartender shares a short story about her encounter with a shitstain of a human garbage monster right before the interview.

About the Guests:

The MXT is an upcoming Alternative Pop Rock band that is trending around the New York music scene. They’ve developed a notorious reputation on stage as well as off the stage. With a thrive for success and a passion for music that cannot be satisfied, the band’s goal is to innovate music. Then Earl, a musician (and The Bartender’s “prom date”), talks about the time he accidentally broke a young fan’s heart. He had a really good reason.

Liz is currently an MPH student in Washington, DC and hops around from various jobs and internships. When she isn’t watching cats that do not belong to her, she cohosts the podcasts “Epilogue” which talks about books and book news. She also has a blog called “Uncorked, Unwrapped” where (when she has time…) she pairs wine and candy. Below are pics of Liz in a sweet selfie, and the cats:

Earl was born and raised in Queens, NYC and began studying classical violin at age four. In fifth grade, he was given a dubbed cassette tape of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” that altered his perspective irrevocably, and began incorporating his love of metal and hardcore into violin playing. He’s been featured in The Strad, Strings Magazine, Vice, and Guitar World. Earl is currently a member of the experimental grindcore/metal duo Black Heart Sutra and new music/hardcore crossover string quartet seven)suns. He lives in Brooklyn, New York with his partner Jennifer DeVore and kid, and teaches music privately. Here he is looking like a badass:

Due to popular demand, here is the Serial parody The Bartender made with her talented friends!

Every year we get together to celebrate the Scottish tradition of Burns Night, which honors poet Robert Burns. There is haggis, scotch, tartan, scotch, poems, scotch and toasts. This year Forest Ray was given the task to tell the “Immortal Memory” which revolves around a very naughty poem by Burns. So he wrote a spoof of the popular and awesome NPR podcast Serial!

Conceived by Forest Ray and Jordan Kraft, written by Forest Ray, with the vocal stylings of Forest, Jordan, Sharda Sekaran, Suparna Mukherjee, Alex Kveton and yours truly, Katharine, doing her best impersonation of the host of Serial Sarah Koenig (who is also Katharine’s cousin).
